Penn State football earned another commitment from a defensive back on April 18.

Hayes Fawcett of On3 broke the news, announcing safety Jonathan Galette's commitment that came on Saturday afternoon.

The three-star recruit is ranked No. 567 overall in the Class of 2027, No. 56 among safeties, and No. 14 among New Jersey prospects, per Rivals Industry Ranking. He's listed at No. 686 nationally, No. 54 among position-less athletes, and No. 17 from his state, as ranked by 247Sports Composite.

Galette received 24 offers by the time he committed. This included programs like Boston College, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. From the Big Ten, Indiana, Ohio State, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, USC, Rutgers, and Wisconsin all extended offers.

The Badgers, in particular, were high on Galette's list, having scheduled an official visit for over the weekend of May 29. He is currently still penciled in their calendar, but it's possible that he voids the visit given his commitment.

Three-star safety Jonathan Galette commits to Penn State

Galette previously visited Happy Valley unofficially for a spring practice on Tuesday, April 14. According to Tyler Calvaruso of Lions247, the Nittany Lions made his recruitment a point of emphasis, which evidently paid off very quickly.

The safety commented on the coaching staff, telling Calvaruso that he felt like he belonged at Penn State and that his connection with the coaches "just hits different."

"I see myself fitting into their defense really well," Galette added. "I think I excel at all the things they like to do."

Specifically, he developed a strong relationship with safeties coach Deon Broomfield. Galette said he appreciated the honesty from Broomfield as well as his player development, referencing his success at Iowa State with safeties.

Galette will be back in Happy Valley on an official visit in the summer, planning on returning for over the weekend of June 12. Aside from Wisconsin, this is the only official visit he has scheduled for the spring/summer session.

In 2025, Galette registered 46 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and three pass deflections.

He joins a Penn State 2027 recruitment class with three-star cornerbacks Ka'ron Ceasar, Zachary Gleason Jr., and Semajay Robinson. The Nittany Lions have the 12th ranked overall Class of 2027, per 247Sports.
