Penn State quarterback Drew Allar injured in first half, replaced by Beau Pribula: Latest injury update
By Josh Yourish
Penn State junior quarterback Drew Allar has exploded in his second season as the Nittany Lion’s starter under new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki. He continued his impressive play against Wisconsin in Week 9, hitting nine of his first 10 throws with the only miss being a drop by veteran wide receiver Julian Fleming. However, just before halftime, with Penn State trailing 10-7, Allar’s knee was injured on a sack and he was unable to start the second half.
Allar played one final play after the apparent injury, then limped into the locker room and emerged after the break with a knee brace on. He attempted to throw a few passes, but was unable to go for the first drive of the second half.
Now, redshirt sophomore Beau Pribula, a three-star recruit in the same class that Allar was the No. 1 quarterback in the country in 2022, will be tasked with leading a comeback for the No. 3 team in the country against a red-hot Wisconsin team at Camp Randall Stadium. Pribula has not made a start across his three years in Happy Valley but has played in every game this season as a change-of-pace quarterback with Kotelnicki featuring his dual-threat ability.
Pribula has attempted 31 passes across the past two seasons with 18 completions for 251 yards and six touchdowns to just one interception. On the ground, the 6-foot-2 207-pound QB has run for 434 yards and seven touchdowns on 71 attempts.
Pribula’s first drive of the second half ended in a punt. In 2024, Allar has thrown for 1,492 yards and 11 touchdowns with just four interceptions. Against USC in Week 7, Allar threw for a career-high of 391 yards and led the game-tying touchdown drive at the end of regulation in the 33-30 overtime victory.
