With Penn State football on a bye, let's take a look at where the rest of fall sports and now winter sports are.

Head coach Matt Campbell's Nittany Lions dropped to 3-4 after a loss at Michigan in Week 7 and remain winless in the Big Ten. Unfortunately, Penn State men's hockey hasn't had much luck either in its four-game stretch to start the season. Guy Gadowsky's team is 0-4 on the year and have a home series vs. Canisius before it takes on conference play.

Women's volleyball is currently 13-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten. Field hockey has been hot with a 10-4 record (4-1 conference) and a seven-game win streak. Women's ice hockey is also above .500 at 5-3 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten.

Here's news you may have missed around Happy Valley.

Penn State volleyball middle blocker Ryla Jones still out with knee injury

The Nittany Lions are coming off one win and one loss from the weekend when they visited the West Coast. UCLA took down Penn State, but the blue and white bounced back against USC. Ahead of the upcoming matches with No. 10 Oregon and No. 18 Indiana, head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley had her weekly media availability.

Schumacher-Cawley gave an injury update on middle blocker Ryla Jones. She said that Jones has not been cleared to return to the court. When Jones sustained the knee injury after colliding with her teammate against Michigan State, she was initially projected to return this weekend against the Ducks and Hoosiers.

Penn State must take on these two ranked opponents without its star transfer. Jones transferred from Pittsburgh after the 2025-26 season and has totaled 55 kills, 45 total blocks (seven solo, 38 assists), 21 digs, and 10 aces in 37 matches for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State women's basketball reveals promotional schedule

Penn State women's basketball posted its 2026-27 promotional schedule on Wednesday morning. The Nittany Lions kick off the season against Cleveland State at home on Nov. 2 after their exhibition game the week prior.

There are 14 other games on their promotional schedule, including nine against Big Ten teams. They open up at-home conference play against Purdue on Dec. 29. Against Rutgers on Jan. 8, 2027, Penn State will host its Pride game. It also has its White Out scheduled for Ohio State on Jan. 31, 2027 and its Pink Zone theme scheduled for Feb. 7, 2027. The Nittany Lions wrap up the season at home on Feb. 28, 2027 vs. Wisconsin. They will host Senior Night for that game.

Maryland fires Mike Locksley, opening opportunities for Penn State

The Terrapins parted ways with head coach Mike Locksley on Wednesday. For Penn State football head coach Matt Campbell, Locksley's firing opens up some doors in recruiting.

Campbell's recruiting, especially with the 2027 class, has not been strong. Penn State has 21 commits, including six four-star recruits. Especially at wide receiver, though, Campbell has struggled battling other Power Four programs.

Josh Yourish noted four Class of 2027 prospects that could fit in with the Nittany Lions. That included three-star quarterback William Jackson, three-star defensive lineman Jayden Agberodiola, four star safety Kenaz Sullivan, and four-star wide receiver Myles McAfee.
