It wasn't just Gavin McKenna's weekend at the 2026 NHL Draft for Penn State men's hockey. The Nittany Lions saw three of their own — current and incoming players — have their names called at the draft.

McKenna was obviously the headliner for the weekend, having been the No. 1 overall selection heading to the Toronto Maple Leafs. While the dust certainly hasn't settled on his draft experience, the blue and white have others to celebrate as well.

Center Egor Shilov and goaltender Ryder Fetterolf were also drafted over the weekend. They will be freshmen at Penn State starting in 2026-27.

Shilov was the first of the freshman duo to come off the board. In the second round, the Colorado Avalanche selected him No. 43 overall.

Per NHL Network, he was ranked as the No. 38 overall prospect of the draft. He was considered the No. 19 overall prospect out of the North American skater pool as well. Scouts described Shilov as an agile, skilled skater who handles the puck easily.

The Tyumen, Russia native is coming off his season in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League in the Canadian Hockey League. For the Victoriaville Tigers, he logged 82 points on 32 goals and 50 assists across 63 games. Shilov had five points on two goals and three assists in four playoff games as well.

His production in the QMJHL ranked seventh in the league and first among rookies. In assists and goals, specifically, he had the ninth-most and was tied for the 14th-most, respectively.

Shilov was initially committed to Boston University, but flipped his commitment to Penn State on May 14.

Fetterolf was selected in the fourth round on Saturday. He was selected No. 125 overall by the Carolina Hurricanes. He is now the fourth Nittany Lion goaltender drafted in program history.

In 2025-26, Fetterolf logged a .923 save percentage, allowing 2.07 goals per game on average across 41 contests. He allowed 84 pucks to pass by him last season for the Ottawa 67's of the CHL's Ontario Hockey League in total. His goals-againt average led the OHL as well. Fetterolf finished with a 29-9-3 record in net and totaled 1,013 saves.

The incoming Penn State goaltender was named the CHL and OHL Goaltender of the Year. He also earned a CHL First All-Star Team nod and a CHL All-Rookie honor.

Fetterolf will fight for a starting role in net for Penn State next season.
