Penn State men's basketball is expected to lose two guards to the Transfer Portal. The portal opens April 7 and closes 15 days after on April 21.

Freshman guard Melih Tunca was the first two announce his plans on entering the Transfer Portal, doing so at the end of March. At the beginning of April, the Nittany Lions got some more bad news.

Redshirt junior guard Freddie Dilione V intends on entering the portal. He was Penn State's top scorer in 2025-26 and departs from the program after spending two seasons in Happy Valley.

Dilione V tallied 448 points over the season, averaging 47.3 percent of shots from the field and 31.8 percent of his three-point attempts. He was also 81.7 percent from the free throw line. His point total was well above guard Kayden Mingo, who had the second-most on the team with 383. The redshirt junior also totaled 78 rebounds on defense, 39 steals, 24 rebounds on offense, and six blocks over 32 games. Of those 32 appearances, Dilione V started in 15.

He joined Penn State's squad in 2024-25 as a redshirt sophomore, transferring from Tennessee where he started his collegiate career on the court. Dilione V was a four-star transfer, ranking 26th overall and fifth among shooting guards, and also a four-star recruit out of high school, per 247Sports.

Looking to take his talents elsewhere in a system that emphasizes his abilities on offense, Dilione V's decision to enter the Transfer Portal does not come as a shock. Now, head coach Mike Rhoades must find a scorer who complements Mingo, the Nittany Lions' star commitment from the Class of 2026.

Currently, guard Dylan Mingo, Kayden Mingo's younger brother, is committed to North Carolina. However, given the active head coach search for the Tar Heels, his place at UNC is uncertain. Penn State was among his top schools when it came down to his decision, so it's likely that the blue and white aren't completely out of his mind, especially if Kayden Mingo stays at State College.
