Demarcus Lawrence has spent the first 11 years of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys and for four of those seasons, he’s been teammates with former Penn State star Micah Parsons. Now, Lawrence is finally moving on, leaving Dallas for a three-year $32.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks on he took a shot at his former organization on the way out the door.

Lawrence won just three postseason games across his 11 seasons and the Cowboys qualified for the playoffs six times. To Lawrence, it’s clear that he couldn’t win in Dallas, but Parsons, who is awaiting a major contract extension from owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, took exception to that idea.

Lawrence didn’t go quietly after Parsons’ comments, firing back on X.

Parsons has quickly become one of the most outspoken players in the NFL, hosting his podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons where he interviews current players and gives his takes on the league.

In the era of athlete-driven media, these social media dust-ups have become more commonplace, and are the best promotion for the player’s media ventures. However, not every player in the league has been a fan of that level of exposure. Judging from his response to his former teammate, Lawrence clearly didn’t enjoy Parsons’ media ventures and may even feel that Parsons’ attitude is a reason why Dallas hasn’t been more successful over the last four years.

Since becoming a first-round pick of the Cowboys in 2021, Parsons is a four-time Pro Bowler, a two-time All-Pro, and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year. However, he is 1-3 in the playoffs, with a Wild Card Round victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023.

Parsons did not have a "me first" reputation at Penn State, but the star linebacker did sit out the pandemic shortened season in 2020 to prepare for the NFL draft.
