After focusing on the 2027 cycle, Penn State football head coach Campbell has shifted his attention to this upcoming class. On Wednesday, be offered another touted Class of 2028 prospect.
For four-star running back Jayshawn Mitchell, the Nittany Lions didn't hold back. According to Tyler Calvaruso of Lions247, they extended "a big offer" to the rising high school junior.
The offer isn't the only reason why Penn State could become a serious threat to land Mitchell.
"There have been a lot of good running backs who have come from Penn State," Mitchell told Calvaruso.
Penn State offered blue chip RB @JAYMITCH_1 on Wednesday. Can the Nittany Lions emerge as a contender to land the San Antonio (Texas) Brennan standout?

Penn State can make a case to land four-star running back Jayshawn Mitchell
The Nittany Lions just sent running back duo Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen off to the NFL this past draft. Before them, Saquon Barkley and Ki-Jana Carter among others have gone through the blue and white program, leaving behind their own legacies.
This upcoming season, Campbell is working with Iowa State transfer and senior Carson Hansen, Ohio State transfer and junior James Peoples, redshirt junior Cam Wallace, redshirt sophomore Quinton Martin Jr., and freshman D'Antae Sheffey.
In the 2027 cycle, Campbell and running backs coach Savon Huggins didn't have huge wins they wanted, such as with five-star Kemon Spell who chose Georgia over the Nittany Lions However, they added four-star Aiden Gibson and three-star Chukwuma Odoh to their 2027 class.
Landing Mitchell would be a huge win for Penn State, especially as it has been all gas no brakes with the 2028 class so far this month.
Mitchell is the No. 239 recruit nationally and No. 17 running back in his cycle, per Rivals Industry Ratings. In 2025, he totaled 255 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries over 11 games. He currently holds 15 offers, including frontrunners Oklahoma, SMU, Texas Tech, Ohio State, and Notre Dame.
While there's huge competition, Campbell and Penn State have pulled off impressive recruitment wins. In the 2027 cycle, three-star cornerback Dhillon McGee committed to the Nittany Lions over the Mustangs and Texas Longhorns. Plucking a Texas prospect from his home state isn't anything Campbell and Co. will back down from.
