There are a handful of current Penn State players head coach Matt Campbell should focus on keeping in Happy Valley, but one already made his announcement that he plans on entering the Transfer Portal come January.

Chaz Coleman breaks hearts with Penn State goodbye that left 1 key part out

Edge rusher Chaz Coleman, a true freshman and former five-star recruit from the Class of 2025, seeks a new home for the remainder of his collegiate career.

While the Transfer Portal doesn't open for another two weeks, a Big Ten rival of the Nittany Lions is already a favorite to land Coleman. Ohio State tried hard recruiting the edge rusher before he committed to and enrolled at Penn State. Coleman is a Warren, Ohio native, so it's no surprise that the Buckeyes are leading the charge scooping him up out of portal.

EDGE Chaz Coleman is predicted to transfer to Ohio State

Coleman was given the green light from Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin in the summer before the regular season started. He played in nine games as a true freshman, burning his redshirt.

With the Nittany Lions, Coleman logged eight tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, one pass break-up, and one pass defensed over the regular season.

While he was relatively quiet looking at the season as a whole, Coleman's talent was undeniable. He was Penn State's top pass rusher with the highest pass rush win rate at 22.1 percent. This was also the 10th-best rate in the country among pass rushers who played at least 70 snaps.

Against Villanova in Week 2, he had four solo tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and fumble recovery, a pass break-up, and a pass defensed. This showing in particular was a look into the kind of game-changing player he can become long-term, especially in the absence of defensive end and senior Dani Dennis-Sutton following the 2025 season.

That kind of talent is something head coach Ryan Day won't pass up on. After recruiting Coleman hard when he was in high school, it's unlikely for the Buckeyes to not take advantage of the opportunity right in front of them.
