Penn State fans came into the weekend upset with FOX for making the Nittany Lion’s Week 10 matchup against Ohio State a Noon kickoff and many attempted to arrange a boycott of the FOX Big Noon Kickoff pregame show, stationed just a walk away from the ESPN College Gameday Crew outside the Bryce Jordan Center. Despite the calls for a boycott, a crowd gathered for FOX’s pregame show, however, they still expressed their displeasure with a certain member of the Big Noon Kickoff crew.
Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is a key member of the FOX Big Noon Kickoff show and he didn’t hide his allegiances in this matchup between top five teams at Beaver Stadium. Meyer found the Ohio State fans in attendance and executed an O-H-I-O chant to the chagrin of the fans clad in blue and white.
Former Alabama running back and 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram responded with a “We Are” chant that was more well-received.
While a crowd formed for Big Noon Kickoff, the College Gameday crowd appeared much bigger and much louder early in the morning. ESPN’s crew, especially former West Virginia kicker and NFL punter Pat McAfee fired a few shots at FOX for making the biggest game of Penn State’s season a Noon kickoff.
Fans aren’t happy with Urban Meyer or the noon kick, but their mood will turn quickly if Penn State can beat the Buckeyes and James Franklin can improve his record against Ohio State from 1-9 to 2-9. The last time the Nittany Lions beat the Buckeyes was a night game at Beaver Stadium back in 2016, with Meyer on the other sideline. That game was capped off by a blocked field goal from Marcus Allen that was returned by Grant Haley for a touchdown.
