After becoming the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Penn State, Saquon Barkley wasted away on the New York Giants for the first six seasons of his NFL career. Then, last offseason Barkley signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and it led to one of the best running back seasons in the history of the NFL which ended with him and the rest of his teammates hosting a Lombardi Trophy.
Surprisingly, Barkley was largely held in check in Philadelphia’s 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, which prevented Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid from completing the first three-peat in Super Bowl history. The Eagle’s superstar running back carried the ball 25 times and racked up just 57 yards without a trip to the end zone and caught six passes for only 40 yards, but Philly’s offense still moved the ball with ease.
With Kansas City loaded up to stop Barkley, quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns with another 72 yards and a score on the ground. Hurts, not Barkley who finished third in regular season MVP voting, was named Super Bowl LIX MVP for his performance, but Barkley was one of the MVPs of the postgame celebration.
First, celebrating his 28th birthday, Barkley joined Chris Berman on NFL primetime and was treated to some birthday cake with teammate Cooper Dejean who turned 22 on Super Bowl Sunday.

Then in the locker room, looking as though he’s never eaten a piece of cake in his life, a shirtless Barkley shotgunned a beer fast enough to impress even the most dedicated pregame drinkers in the lots outside of Beaver Stadium on a Saturday in the fall.

He was even seen chugging a beer with former Alabama offensive lineman Landon Dickerson, who seemingly enjoyed a few during his days in Tuscaloosa. While Saquon’s cake-eating and beer-drinking exploits further endeared him to Penn State fans who didn’t think they could love him anymore, his six-year-old daughter Jada stole the show on FOX’s postgame show.
“Congratulations you’re my favorite.”

After his dominant three seasons in Happy Valley, a year like this is all Penn State fans ever wanted for Saquon and for a while, it appeared as though it would never come. Now, like Saquon, his fans are living it up after a historic Super Bowl run that cemented him as an all-time great.
