Pat McAfee calls Penn State wrestling 'unstoppable' with head coach Cael Sanderson

The Nittany Lions are on their own tier in the college wrestling landscape, and Pat McAfee gave Cael Sanderson his flowers as being a huge reason why.

No. 1 Penn State wrestling is a force to be reckoned with. The Nittany Lions are undefeated in 2025-26 and continue their dominance, securing a Big Ten Tournament title along the way to another national championship.

Ten Penn State wrestlers are fighting for their individual national titles as well, with seven of them going in as the No. 1 seed of their respective weight class. The lowest-ranked Nittany Lion is Braeden Davis, who is 14th in the 141-pound weight class.

"This is electrifying. This is a sport that is obviously a lot of toughness and obviously a lot of grit and courage and having to go dip deep down and go one-on-one and out-body somebody. So, the amount of things that you need to have to be a great wrestler are obviously very admirable," ESPN's Pat McAfee said on Monday. "Now, Penn State, you can't even bet on them . . . They're unstoppable. You go to Penn State, you're a better wrestler than everybody else. That's just kind of how it works."

Pat McAfee says Penn State wrestling is "electrifying" and so dominant that "you can't even bet on them"

The Nittany Lions' success all comes back to head coach Cael Sanderson. Sanderson was undefeated as a collegiate wrestler at Iowa State, 159-0. He was also a four-time NCAA champion, won three Dan Hodge Trophies, and four NCAA Outstanding Wrestler awards. Sanderson is also an Olympic gold medalist.

"This guy just has not lost," McAfee said of Sanderson, both as a wrestler and as a coach.

Sanderson is on his way to claiming a 13th team national title with the Nittany Lions as their head coach, only solidifying the dynasty he built in Happy Valley. This will be his fifth consecutive national championship. Penn State only held two national titles prior to Sanderson's tenure (1921 and 1953).

"So now it's basically, from my viewpoint, it's everybody versus Penn State," McAfee said. "It has to be the most dominant in history, you can't even bet on them."
