Over the first 10 years of his tenure at Penn State the College Football Playoff eluded him. Now, in the first season of the 12-team CFP, Franklin has gone from the No. 4 overall ranking, and the No. 6 seed, to an Orange Bowl CFP semifinal matchup with Notre Dame. The Nittany Lions have taken down SMU and Boise State as big favorites in the CFP, but they are underdogs to the Fighting Irish, who have defeated Indiana and Georgia in last week’s Sugar Bowl.
