Penn State got off to a rough start in Week 2 against Temple, its first road game of the season, but the Nittany Lions found their footing and rolled to a 29-7 win at Lincoln Financial Field. Now, it’s time for Game No. 3 of what feels like a preseason slate for Matt Campbell’s team, facing three Group of Six opponents in non-conference play.
Saturday, Buffalo will roll into Beaver Stadium for the first time since 2019. Despite handling lesser opponents thus far, Penn State has climbed to No. 14 in the country and is a massive favorite over the Bulls, who are 1-1 after a loss to FIU in Week 2. However, their Week 1 result may have been even more troubling.
To start the season, Buffalo in Year 3 under head coach Pete Lembo was nearly upset by FCS UAlbany, holding on for a 21-17 win. Lembo executed an incredible turnaround in his first season at the helm, resuscitating a program that had gone 3-9 the year prior and leading it to a 9-4 record and a Bahamas Bowl win. However, last season the Bulls failed to reach a bowl, finishing 5-7.
Now, barring a massive upset of their own, Buffalo will likely fall to 1-2, and Campbell’s Nittany Lions will march into Big Ten play 3-0.
