Despite missing out on the Broko Nagurski Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s defensive player of the year, Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter was named a unanimous first-team All-American, the first in the program since Carl Nassib in 2015 and the 15th in program history.
Tyler Warren, however, was not a unanimous pick and failed to earn consensus first-team All-American honors. Warren finished seventh in Heisman Trophy voting but was only a first-team All-American by the Sporting News and FWAA. He finished on the second team for the AP, AFCA, and Walter Camp Foundation with Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr. earning first-team recognition.
Fannin, who caught 11 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown at Penn State this year, finished the season with 100 grabs for 1,342 yards and nine scores. Warren had 88 catches for 1,062 yards and six scores and also won the Mackey Award as the nation’s top tight end.
Jaylen Reed “okay” after car accident
Penn State safety Jaylen Reed is “okay” and will play in Penn State’s first-round College Football Playoff matchup against SMU on Saturday at Beaver Stadium after being involved in a car accident last week.
A Penn State spokesperson told reporters, “Jaylen Reed was involved in a car accident. We are happy he’s okay and there were no serious injuries. He will continue to prepare for this weekend.”
Reed was named second-team All-Big Ten at safety and developed into a massive part of Penn State’s defense in his senior season, especially after Kevin Winston Jr. went out with a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. Reed leads the team with 79 total tackles and three interceptions this year.
More: Women’s Volleyball adds transfer talent before Final Four
Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s program is two wins away from a national championship, but with the transfer portal opening before the end of the postseason this weekend, Penn State women’s volleyball already has one eye to the future. On Monday, Ohio State outside hitter Emmi Sellman announced that she would be transferring to Penn State for the 2025 season.
As a true freshman, the Burtonsville, MD native was third on the team with 219 kills, averaged 2.81 kills per set, and posted a career-high 27 kills against the Nittany Lions. She will help to replace the bevy of veterans prepared to depart the program at season’s end and will be a top offensive option for true freshman setter Izzy Starck, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
