Penn State men's basketball has a new committed guard on its roster.

New NCAA Tournament expansion is still too irrelevant for Penn State basketball

On May 8, Joe Tipton of On3 reported the news that point guard Andy Gemao will join the Nittany Lions, according to Gemao's agency. He reportedly, per Nittany Lions Wire, received the offer from the Nittany Lions on Friday as well then committed on the same day.

The 6-foot-1, 170 pound guard attends high school in Toronto, Ohio and is from the Philippines. He previously played for the Philippines' U19 national team. Mignosa does not have a 247Sports recruit rating.

Point guard Andy Gemao commits to Penn State men's basketball

Gemao joins forwards Roko Prkacin and Francois Wibaut in head coach Mike Rhoades' incoming Class of 2026. Prkacin and Wibaut are from Croatia and France, respectively. Rhoades' recruiting class now ranks 136th across all Division I men's basketball programs, per 247Sports.

Recruiting international players is not something new to Rhoades, and isn't exclusive to this incoming class.

Forwards Ivan Juric and Tibor Mirtic, and guard Melih Tunca are all players from overseas that Rhoades recruited in his Class of 2025. Juric is the only one returning of the three.

After the 2025-26 season, Penn State lost a number of guards as Tunca, Dominick Stewart, Freddie Dilione V, Eli Rice, and Kayden Mingo all entered the Transfer Portal.

The mass exodus caused Rhoades to practically start from scratch as he seemingly did this past season.

Though Gemao will be an incoming freshman following his senior season at Royal Crown high school, bringing in experience and maturity have been key components of Rhoades' rebuilding efforts in the offseason. He also added former Central Connecticut point guard Jay Rodgers to the roster out of the portal. Two shooting guards also join the Nittany Lions: former Alabama Hunstville Charger Thomas Allard and former Davidson Wildcat Roberts Blums.

While Rhoades' vision shifted when recruiting and picking up players out of the Transfer Portal, Gemao still adds versatility to the roster as a smaller guard, giving Penn State depth and more options on the court.
