Penn State football is patiently waiting on a few 2027 recruits to announce their commitments, one being four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor.
After his June 5-7 official visit with the Nittany Lions, Taylor wiped the rest of his calendar clean, cancelling his visits with Nebraska and Alabama. All signs were pointing towards the wideout committing to Penn State and the experts reflected that as well.
On Sunday, though, it was reported that Taylor will carry out his initial plans of visiting head coach Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers over the last weekend of official visit season. To put even more doubt in the Nittany Lions' mind, Taylor's comment at OT7 raised some concerns over where he's truly leaning in his recruitment.
When asked for a sneak peak of his commitment, Taylor named 2027 composite four-star Trae Taylor. The quarterback committed to Nebraska over a year ago on May 1, 2025. Since then, it's been all Cornhuskers for him and he is scheduled to be in Lincoln on June 19-21. That's also when head coach Matt Campbell's wide receiver target will take his visit to Nebraska.

Four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor teases Nebraska commitment and reveals a commitment date of July 6
It was reported, and Taylor also said in the video, that he will announce his commitment on July 6. The other programs in the mix besides Penn State and Nebraska are Georgia, Ohio State, Syracuse, and Colorado.
That's quite a bit of time for Rhule to put the work in and catch up to the Nittany Lions. He made a huge push for Pottstown, Pa. wideout Matthew Gregory before the four-star committed to UCLA, and it's clear he's not backing down from Campbell for Taylor.
This is a recruit Campbell cannot miss on. The No. 82 recruit nationally and No. 13 wide receiver in the class is an essential piece to Penn State's 2027 class. Official visit season slowed the blue and white down massively. The former top 10 class dropped down to No. 16 nationally over the weeks as it suffered a series of flipped commitments and misses on blue-chip prospects.

One of these flips was four-star wide receiver Jamir Dean, who changed his mind and committed to Georgia just a little over one month after committing to the Nittany Lions. They're down to just one wideout committed with four-star Landon Blum.
Penn State is also struggling with recruiting players from its own backyard. Three Pennsylvania natives remain standing in Campbell's class, which is an embarrassing show out in comparison to the recent classes James Franklin put together in previous years (seven to 11 in-state commits since 2022).
A commitment from Taylor addresses both of those concerns in Campbell's class. While it doesn't fix everything entirely, the Nittany Lions are better off with than without the 2027 wide receiver.
Taylor is also one of the last hopes at landing a currently uncommitted wide receiver in this class in general. Penn State is waiting on a decision from four-star Deshawn Hall as well, but those hopes are slowly diminishing as experts project Auburn landing him. Campbell can't go with just one wide receiver committed in this cycle.
Taylor's tease at OT7 might not be anything to dwell over. Recruits tend to cause a stir when they know there's anticipation buzzing around their decision. After drawing in some attention, Taylor could ultimately just double down on his original Penn State commitment and have had his mind made up since his June 5-7 official visit.
For Campbell, though, there's nothing lighthearted about Taylor's decision.
