Penn State football has hit some bumps in the road throughout its 2027 recruitment cycle, but head coach Matt Campbell's class is still ranked No. 7 overall across the country. While balancing the highs and lows of his first Nittany Lion recruiting season, Campbell can at least be grateful that he knows in advance that the cards won't be in his favor for an upcoming commitment date.
Three-star safety Knyair Crumb is scheduled to announce his commitment on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel on Wednesday, June 17. His top four schools are Penn State, Auburn, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech.
Despite being included as one of Crumb's finalists, it's safe to say the Nittany Lions won't add a third safety to their class on Wednesday.

Three-star safety Knyair Crumb scheduled to announce commitment on Wednesday, June 17
Crumb's commitment date comes before he even finishes his official visit season. He had three visits lined up starting with the Tigers on May 29-31. The Hokies hosted him on June 5-7 and the Orange were slated to host Crumb on June 19-21. However, with his decision coming before seeing Syracuse, Crumb's mind has clearly been made up for some time now.
As of early June, three experts from 247Sports and Rivals combined logged predictions for Auburn to land Crumb. The Tigers have an 86.5 percent chance to do so. At No. 2 in Rivals' team predictions, the Orange have a 6.1 percent chance to land Crumb. The Hokies and Nittany Lions are third and fourth, respectively.
Auburn has the No. 12 ranked class overall so far with only one safety committed. Four-star Chance Gilbert committed on June 8 after his official visit weekend.
After seeing Virginia Tech most recently, it's evident that Crumb needed one last confirmation before committing to the Tigers. Hokies head coach James Franklin's class ranks just behind Penn State's at No. 8. Unlike the Nittany Lions, though, Virginia Tech only has one safety committed with three-star Elijah Butler.
The only team Crumb didn't schedule a visit with was with Penn State. He only visited Happy Valley once, which was on March 31 for an unofficial visit. His limited interest was already a sign that the blue and white had to shift their attention to others safeties in the class.
Three-stars Jonathan Galette and Caleb Cooper are the only two Class of 2027 safeties the Nittany Lions have committed, and there aren't any other official visits lined up for this cycle.
Cooper committed to Penn State after his official visit weekend on June 5-7, and Galette has been committed since April 18. Cooper was part of Campbell's huge, 26-player official visit weekend that saw some commits second-guess their choice while uncommitted recruits leaned closer to making it official. Galette was in Happy Valley on June 12-14 with four other recruits, all of who were uncommitted heading into the weekend.
While Campbell won't add another safety to his class, it's not a position area he needs to worry about. Rather, this recruitment cycle shifted where his focus should be in the defensive backfield. Losing cornerbacks Semajay Robinson and Zachary Gleason Jr. were wake up calls for the Nittany Lions, so retaining their remaining two and prioritizing four-star Dhillon McGee are the areas Campbell should be emphasizing.
