Marcus Freeman's avoidant response gives Penn State fans an option to root for

Penn State football's search for a head coach is getting harder week after week with head coaches getting dropped from their program what seems like every day. However, if athletic director Pat Kraft can sell a convincing pitch, this young head coach could be the face of the Nittany Lions' program in the near future.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is a huge swing, a nearly impossible one. The key word there, though, is "nearly."

In his interview on "Bussin' With The Boys," Freeman was asked about the job openings popping up around the country. His response is something Penn State fans can latch onto.

"I think, probably, as I look at it this year compared to last year, maybe the impulsive thing would be to say, 'Oh, no, I'm not interested.' I got a great job," Freeman said.

Even the thought of Freeman backing down from locking that door just a little is enough for Kraft to go full force on getting him in Happy Valley. The Fighting Irish's head coach assured his current fanbase that he believes the reason why his program has been successful under his short reign so far is because of everyone around him. It doesn't take just one person, but that's exactly what Penn State needs.

Marcus Freeman doesn't shut down the possibility of taking a new head coaching position on the market

A turnaround period is underway, whether that runs deep into the coaching staff and roster or not. With Freeman leading the blue and white, his village that helped build up the Notre Dame team might just come along with him.

On top of the staff, Freeman secured many recruits that the Nittany Lions hoped to land from the classes of 2026 and 2027. These are prospects that kept Penn State in mind, even as a finalist. If Freeman jumped ship, it's not unlikely those recruits would follow him there. After all, they already liked what the Nittany Lions had to offer to begin with.

That's the kind of pitch that might intrigue Freeman. Not much has to change from his current regime if he plays his cards right. All that needs to happen is a move the State College.

Right now, it's all talk, just comments and hopes here and there keeping this possibility alive. If Kraft pieces together the right offer fitting for Freeman's situation, it's going to be a legit conversation. He already said taking a new job is not off the table for him. Why not go to the team he beat in the Orange Bowl? Why not give Penn State the upgrade from Franklin it needs and knows he can provide?
