Penn State football will be without star freshman defensive end Chaz Coleman.
Latest Chaz Coleman update from Penn State leaves fans with more questions
Earlier in the week, interim head coach Terry Smith said Coleman was day-to-day, but the edge rusher was not in practice leading up to Saturday's contest. He did not play against Indiana in Week 11.
Without full confirmation on his status, there was hope for Coleman to return. He showed signs of becoming an elite edge rusher at the start of the season, and former head coach James Franklin confidently gave him the green light before the 2025 season kicked off.
The true freshman defender registered seven tackles, two fumble recoveries, one sack, one forced fumble, and one pass defensed in his four game appearances so far.
The Nittany Lions will also be without safety Antoine Belgrave-Shorter. The freshman played in seven games for the blue and white. He logged 14 tackles.
Cornerback A.J. Harris was listed as questionable, another disruptive player on defense for Penn State. The junior appeared in all nine games so far in 2025, posting 29 tackles, one fumble recovery, and one pass defensed.
These are major losses for the Nittany Lions on defense. Though players, like Dani Dennis-Sutton, Zane Durant, Dominic DeLuca, and Zuriah Fisher, are all available, the loss of linebacker Tony Rojas showed just how weak Penn State's defense can become.
However, going against an offense without a consistent starting quarterback between two healthy options, the star players remaining should have no trouble fending off Michigan State on Senior Day.
