If Penn State could only land 1 player from loaded official visit weekend, it's a no-brainer

The Nittany Lions have a four-star wide receiver target they can't let slip through the cracks.

Penn State football has a busy weekend ahead with 26 recruits having official visits scheduled. Of this crew, 19 already committed to the Nittany Lions and out of the seven who haven't made a decision yet, there's one recruit head coach Matt Campbell can't miss on.

Four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor will be on campus this weekend. He's the No. 77 recruit nationally, No. 13 wideout, and No. 4 prospect from Pennsylvania, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Out of his 31 offers, Penn State is still the most likely school to land his commitment.

Four-stars Landon Blum and Jamir Dean are the only two wide receivers in Campbell's Class of 2027. Blum, as of now, isn't swaying from the Nittany Lions, but Campbell could be on the verge of losing Dean.

Regardless of Dean's situation, though, Taylor is essentially a must-have for Penn State. Per Rivals predictions, the Nittany Lions have a 50.9 percent chance of landing him with Nebraska in second with a 12.1 percent chance.

He's not the most likely recruit to commit over the weekend, but if Penn State could only have or choose one, Taylor's the obvious choice. Campbell hasn't done well with in-state recruits in this cycle, and while he's already trying to redeem that with the Class of 2028, Taylor would be a huge addition and boost in this current cycle, which would make him the fifth Pennsylvania native in Campbell's class.

Campbell's blue-chip recruits are also limited in this Class of 2027. He has six four-star commits, including Blum and Dean. Only one of these commits is from Pennsylvania: defensive lineman Stanley Montgomery. Aside from him, Campbell hasn't hit with blue-chip, in-state prospects.

Taylor is a no-brainer option for Campbell for the sake of the wide receiver room, adding another blue-chip prospect, and adding more in-state talent.

He was previously committed to the program when former head coach James Franklin was still in charge, but de-committed once he was fired. The wide receiver was one of the recruits who gave the Nittany Lions a second chance. Since Campbell couldn't hang onto all of them, like five-star running back Kemon Spell, Taylor is his saving grace.

The Gibsonia, Pa. native had 33 receptions for 571 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2025. The year prior, he caught 51 catches for 932 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Taylor is one of two uncommitted wide receivers visiting Happy Valley. Four-star Deshawn Hall is also taking an official visit this weekend. Unlike Taylor, Hall has a few schools on his mind. The Nittany Lions are going up against Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn for Hall.
