How to watch Penn State women’s volleyball vs. Marquette in the Sweet 16
By Josh Yourish
After a two-loss regular season and the program’s first Big Ten title since 2017, Penn State women’s volleyball has cruised to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s Nittany Lions were awarded a No. 1 seed in the tournament and as such are hosting the four-team regional at Rec Hall this weekend with No. 2 seed Creighton, No. 3 seed Texas, and No. 5 seed Marquette for a spot in the national semifinal.
Penn State also hosted its first and second-round matchups, defeating Delaware State in a sweep and knocking off the No. 8 seed in the region, North Carolina to advance to a matchup against Marquette on Friday night. Marquette also won its first-round matchup in a sweep, defeating Florida Gulf Coast, and then outlasted 4-seed Utah in five sets in Salt Lake City.
The Regional Semifinal will begin on Friday afternoon with tip-off between Creighton and Texas at Rec Hall set for 1:00 p.m. ET. The, 30 minutes after the conclusion of that match, Penn State will face Marquette. Last season, Penn State bowed out of the NCAA Tournament in the Regional Semifinal, losing to Wisconsin in Madison, but that Penn State team did not have Izzy Starck.
The true freshman setter arrived in Happy Valley as the No. 1 recruit in the country and has lived up to the hype. She has already been recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and the AVCA East Coast Region Freshman of the Year. Starck finished with 41 assists against North Carolina as Penn State hit 0.368. Penn State will need to lean on its inexperienced freshman on Friday afternoon. Here’s how you can watch the matchup on ESPN2.
