The last time that Penn State men’s basketball played Indiana, the Nittany Lions were off to a stellar 12-2 start with a conference win over Purdue under their belt. However, since that 77-71 loss to the Hoosiers at The Palestra on January 5, Mike Rhoades’s team has gone a putrid 3-11 and sunk to 17th place in the Big Ten, in danger of missing out on the Big Ten Tournament.

The good news for Penn State, however, is that the Nittany Lions have won two straight, beating Nebraska and Minnesota on Wednesday and Saturday last week to keep their postseason hopes alive. Junior center Yanic Konan Niederhauser, who has dealt with injuries through much of the Big Ten gauntlet, looked 100% on Saturday at Minnesota, leading the team with 24 points in the 69-60 win over the Golden Gophers.

Despite his recent success, Konan Niderhauser will have his hands full on Wednesday night at Assembly Hall against Oumar Ballo. Indiana’s seven-foot center finished with a game-high 25 points on 9/15 shooting with 13 rebounds against the Nittany Lions in Philadelphia.

Mike Woodson and Indiana may have started Penn State’s problems in 2025, but that doesn’t mean the Hoosiers don’t have issues of their own. IU is an underwhelming 7-9 in conference play and its year has gone so far off the rails that Woodson has announced that he will retire at season’s end.

Even amidst disastrous campaigns, both Indiana and Penn State have shown plenty of fight, and that should make for a compelling matchup on Wednesday night in Bloomington.
