Last season, first-year head coach Mike Rhoades led Penn State men’s basketball to a 16-17 overall record and a second-round exit in the Big Ten tournament. The Nittany Lions went 9-11 in conference play behind Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Ace Baldwin Jr. who transferred to Happy Valley from VCU, following his longtime head coach. On Monday night at the Bryce Jordan Center, Penn State will open Year 2 of the Mike Rhoades era with a non-conference home game against the Binghamton Bearcats.

With Baldwin back to lead a team that added Tennessee transfer Freddie Dilione V and Northern Illinois transfer Yanic Konan Niederhauser in the offseason, the Nittany Lions have NCAA Tournament aspirations. Rhoades led VCU to the tournament three times across his six seasons in Richmond including a 2023 trip with Baldwin as his point guard.

Binghamton is coming off a 15-15 season with a 7-9 record in the America East Conference. The Bearcats are still looking to turn their program around under head coach Levell Sanders.

Penn State should start off the season 1-0 before a Friday night matchup with UMBC. The Nittany Lions are still a month away from conference play beginning, and with such a potentially lopsided non-conference matchup, the sportsbooks have not offered betting lines for Penn State’s first game of the season.

Here’s how you can watch the Nittany Lion’s season opener.
