ESPN's 'College GameDay' is Happy Valley bound

Just like Nittany Lions fans, the ESPN crew doesn't want to miss out on a top 10, White Out matchup.

ESPN "College GameDay" announced that the crew is heading to Happy Valley for the Week 5 matchup against No. 3 Penn State and No. 6 Oregon on Sept. 27.

The program will air from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday just near Beaver Stadium on Old Main Lawn. This will make it the 11th time and second consecutive year that Penn State is the host site of the show. It is also the 26th time "College GameDay" airs at the site of a game with the Nittany Lions either at home or on the road.

Last season on Nov. 2, Penn State prepared to take on Ohio State at home when the crew of Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmon Howard, Pat McAfee, and Lee Corso set up in State College. The Buckeyes ultimately beat the Nittany Lions 20-13.

ESPN "College GameDay" slated to visit Happy Valley for the Week 5 White Out game between Penn State and Oregon

The White Out game's biggest competitor was the SEC matchup between No. 5 Georgia and No. 14 Alabama. The Crimson Tide lost to Florida State in Week 1, 31-17, so even the SEC ties that ESPN has weren't enough to justify choosing the Bulldogs and Alabama over the 2024 Big Ten Championship Game regular season rematch.

Oregon is currently 4-0 after beating Oregon State, 41-7, on Sept. 20. The Ducks opened their season with a blowout win over Montana State and Oklahoma State in the first two weeks and their first Big Ten victory over Northwestern in Week 3. Though Oregon didn't have the blessing of a bye week like the Nittany Lions, the game against Oregon State didn't exhaust its energy.

As for Penn State, it holds an unsurprising 3-0 record after an easy non-conference slate and a Week 4 bye. It beat Nevada, Florida International, and Villanova, though they weren't kind of dominant performances that was expected out of the blue and white.

The US LBM Coaches Poll that was released on Sunday lists this Week 5 game as a top 5 battle with the Nittany Lions at No. 2 and the Ducks ranked fifth. Per the AP Top 25 Poll, though, the White Out will be a top 10 matchup. Penn State dropped one spot to Miami after the Hurricanes defeated Florida 26-7 on Saturday.

The Nittany Lions currently have an edge on Oregon, according to FanDuel's first betting odds. The site lists the Nittany Lions as a 3.5-point favorite with the over-under currently set at 52.5.
