College GameDay cast goes White Out, but McAfee didn’t get the memo

Pat McAfee had to be different, but the cast wasn't all-in with Penn State despite matching with Nittany Lions fans.

ESPN came to Happy Valley for Saturday's College GameDay in anticipation for the No. 3 Penn State v. No. 6 Oregon game at 7:30 p.m. ET. Feeling the spirit of the White Out, the cast of Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, and Desmond Howard dressed in all white suits — well, almost all of them.

ESPN College GameDay feels the White Out spirit at Penn State with all white suits, but Pat McAfee has to be different

This is the first time College GameDay participated in a White Out themselves. A top 10 matchup — and the first time the Nittany Lions set the theme for a top six matchup — is the perfect time to join in on the fun. Howard, Davis, Saban, and Herbstreit agreed, wearing the pearly white, sharp suits. McAfee, on the other hand, didn't get the memo.

It's not difficult to miss regardless, but especially being smack dab in the middle at the table, McAfee's choice to wear cream is nothing short of an eyesore. To make matters worse, he didn't fully commit to the color either. He paired his cream jacket with true white pants and a true white shirt that actually match everyone else on the panel.

To say the least, McAfee's fashion choices are definitely different. It's not a shock he decided to put a spin on the theme, but he sticks out like a sore thumb with the rest of the cast (and every Penn State fan on site) while also looking mismatched himself.

Wearing cream was just one strike for the College GameDay cast. The second and third, especially according to the fans at Old Main Lawn, came from Howard's answer to a College GameDay Dashboard question and a quarterback comparison.

When asked which Big Ten team is the best in the country, Howard hesitated to say the Ducks in front of the sea of blue and white fans in front of him. McAfee, despite being off-theme himself, joked that Howard should have worn a green suit instead.

ESPN also didn't shy away from showing a comparison no Penn State fan wanted to see. Trying to guess which quarterback was on either side of the board, College GameDay took its chance to show the facts as to which QB is outperforming the other early in the 2025 season. Unfortunately for the Nittany Lions, former backup Beau Pribula runs away with this comparison by far.

Head coach James Franklin will join the College GameDay cast at 10:35 a.m. ET. To end the show, ESPN chose a Penn State legend to serve as the show's guest picker. Former Nittany Lion linebacker LaVar Arrington will represent his alma mater. If he's feeling the school spirit, hopefully he's wearing white and not cream.
