Over the 10 years of the four-team College Football Playoff format, Penn State failed to make the CFP but would have been a mainstay in a 12-team format. Now, at 7-1 heading into the release of the first 12-team CFP rankings of 2024, the Nittany Lions should figure prominently as a true contender.

James Franklin’s continual 10 or 11-win seasons haven’t been good enough before, but they should be now, which has the Penn State fanbase excited about this new format. Here’s how you can catch the release of the CFP rankings.

Where to watch the 2024 CFP Rankings Release

The College Football Playoff rankings show can be seen on ESPN at the times listed above. The scheduled time for Tuesday, November 12, however, is an approximation because the show will occur between the two games of the men’s college basketball State Farm Champions Classic.

How will the CFP rankings affect the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket?

The CFP rankings will not necessarily be seeded into a bracket, though the process to get from the CFP top 25 to the 12-team bracket is rather simple.

The committee will simply rank the teams from 1-25. Then to get the bracket, they will take the four highest-seeded conference champions, which can come from any conference, though they are expected to more often than not come from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, and SEC, and give those teams the top four seeds in the bracket and a first-round bye. The fifth-highest-ranked conference champion will also be guaranteed a spot in the CFP bracket, either where they are ranked within the top 12 or at No. 12 if they fall outside of the top 12 of the CFP rankings.

The rest of the bracket will be filled out with at-large bids as determined by the committee’s rankings.
