Way to make an announcement! On Tuesday evening, four-star running back Aiden Gibson out of Woodruff, South Carolina decided on where he was going to play his college football at. While he had been a Penn State lean heading into his big moment, the way he went about it was perfectly over the top. Gibson was on-air with Tom Loy of 247Sports when he decided to take things into his own hand...
Heading into Tuesday evening, Gibson was deciding between these five Power Four schools of note.
- Louisville Cardinals
- North Carolina Tar Heels
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- Rutgers Scarlet Knights
- South Carolina Gamecocks
Moments before making his decision, Gibson exited the backroom to the front to go pick Penn State.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Gibson is the No. 8 prospect from South Carolina, the No. 22 running back in the nation, and the No. 322 overall recruit in the 2027 cycle. The Woodruff High School standout has his official visit to Penn State coming up in a month on June 12. He still has one on the docket with Rutgers on May 29, but that might not happen now. Gibson made his big decision.
While it may have been an easy choice for him, Matt Campbell has to be loving him coming aboard.
Aiden Gibson makes his presence felt while committing to Penn State
While watching the video of him speaking to Loy, you would have thought that Gibson would have made his commitment front and center from where he was set up at. Instead, Gibson walked down the hall and into a restaurant with all of his friends and family there to cheer him on. While committing well outside of the Carolina region could not have been easy, Gibson felt destined for the Big Ten.
With Rutgers appearing to be the runner-up to get him, that would indicate closer programs such as North Carolina, South Carolina, and to some degree Louisville, were just not as enticing to him. The other big thing here people may need to keep in mind is coaching. Campbell may be new to the job, but he is arguably the best of the bunch who were vying for Gibson's commitment during this cycle.
Jeff Brohm may be building something special at his alma mater of Louisville, but the Cardinals have a finite ceiling as a program. Greg Schiano is an institution at Rutgers, but the Scarlet Knights' ceiling is even lower. As for Shane Beamer and Bill Belichick closer to home, neither seem like they will be long for their respective jobs. Campbell looks to be in State College for the long haul moving forward.
Right now, it is all about gathering and harnessing positive energy when it comes to the Penn State football program. Last season was one of such tremendous tumult. Campbell has come in with the reputation as an elite program builder from his time at Iowa State. People all around the country know what he is all about. It looks like Gibson is hoping he can be the next Breece Hall while playing for him.
It did not take much, but the manner in which Gibson committed has resonated within the fan base.
