College football recruiting takes place nearly 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year, barring any dead recruiting periods. It has been somewhat common in previous years to flip recruits from their verbal commitments, but now in the NIL era, the flip is even more prevalent.
Penn State has been working diligently to flip recruits in the 2025 class, including a three-star USC commit. Romero Ison, a wide receiver recruit out of Gwynn Oak, Maryland, was present at Penn State’s most recent game, per On3 Sports.
Ison is currently ranked 371st nationally by 247sports’s composite rankings, and as the 53rd wide receiver recruit in the 2025 class.
Back in April, Ison chose the Trojans over Pitt and Penn State. He told Rivals.com, "I like the personnel they run. Their offense is based around the spread scheme too." Ison finished his junior season with nearly 1,500 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns.
Penn State has the 15th best 2025 recruiting class in the nation, a somewhat underwhelming, but consistent placement. They have four wide receivers verbally committed in the 2025 class in Matthew Outten, a 6-foot-0 four-star recruit out of Virginia, Jeff Exinor Jr., a 6-foot-2 three-star recruit out of Maryland, Koby Howard, a 5-foot-11 three-star recruit out of Florida, and Lyrick Samuel, a 6-foot-4 three-star recruit out of New York.
If Ison ultimately flips to Penn State, the wide receiver group coming into State College this spring would be very solid. They are lacking a real blue-chip, elite prospect at the position, but look for more potential flips and commitments until the 2025 class puts pen to paper at National Signing Day on February 5th.
