Big Ten QB rankings, No. 6: Luke Altmyer (was 6)

  • Passing yards: 1,883
  • TD: 13 INT: 10
  • Comp: 64.8%
  • YPA: 7.0

Altmyer has good numbers. He’s third in the conference in adjust completion percentage at 75.0%, is sixth in yards per attempt at 7.0, and completes 45.2% of his deep passes for an average of 16.4 yards per attempt.

The problem is, he’s been pressured on nearly 40% of his dropbacks and against pressure he averages 5.7 yards per attempt, has been sacked 33 times, and has four of his 10 interceptions.

It’s not all his fault, the offensive line has blood on its hands too, but Altmyer turns the ball over too much and those 33 sacks have generated an EPA of -21.1 which is by far the most negative EPA of any quarterback. Altmyer’s total EPA is 18.9 which ranks fifth in the Big Ten because he’s a good quarterback. There are just far too many negative plays.
