Big Ten QB power rankings thru Week 10 (Drew Allar vs. JJ McCarthy)
By Josh Yourish
In Week 10 there weren’t a lot of great quarterback matchups across the Big Ten. That might be because there aren’t a whole lot of good quarterbacks in the conference.
Kyle McCord and Ohio State took care of business after trailing Gavin Wimsatt and Rutgers at halftime, but the best matchup was between Drew Allar and Taulia Tagovailoa. On my last Big Ten QB rankings I had Tagovailoa at No. 2, one spot ahead of Allar. Well, the Penn State QB might be moving up after a big day in a 51-15 Nittany Lions win.
Finally, in Week 12, Michigan and JJ McCarthy will get tested. I can’t wait to see Allar vs. McCarthy. It’s the Big Ten’s best facsimile of a heavyweight fight like the Pac-12 gives us every week. Let’s see where Allar and McCarthy rank along with the rest of the conference.
Big Ten QB rankings, No. 14: Deacon Hill (was 14)
- Passing yards: 492
- TD: 3 INT: 4
- Comp: 41.6%
- YPA: 4.4
Deacon Hill debuted at No. 14 in my first QB power rankings and has done nothing to change my mind since. He did set a new season high for passing yards with 116 in a 12-10 loss to Minnesota three weeks ago. Then on Saturday, he threw for 65 yards and a touchdown with one interception in a 10-7 win over Northwestern.
Kirk Ferentz pre-fired Brian Ferentz who is nowhere near his goal of 25 points per game and Hill’s utter incompetence is a big reason why. In fairness, this offense wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire with Cade McNamara.
Oh and if you were thinking that Hill is probably a run-first quarterback with passing totals that low, he has -82 rushing yards this season and one rushing touchdown.
