James Franklin not happy with reporters after 51-15 win over Maryland
By Josh Yourish
In Week 10, Penn State dominated Maryland in every sense of the word, but James Franklin wasn’t happy after the 51-15 win. He was pleased with his team’s performance, but he wasn’t happy that reporters weren’t happy.
“I think we’ve taken winning for granted,” Franklin continued, “we win games and we come into the press conference and it doesn’t necessarily feel like it.”
Penn State was favored by 8.5 points on Saturday and won by 36 points while allowing negative rushing yards to the Terps. Even Drew Allar, who has drawn a lot of criticism this season, went 25-34 for 240 yards and four touchdowns.
Franklin began his statement about the mood in the press conference by saying, “At the end of the day, it’s a long season, you have got to find a way to get wins.” He continued, “we got a win last week, we built on it, we got better, and we got better this week.”
Penn State is 8-1 with the only loss coming to Ohio State, who took the No. 1 spot in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the year. Franklin did acknowledge that despite the record, his team isn’t winning enough, or in the biggest games.
“We’ve won a decent amount, not as much as what everybody wants, I get that”
Franklin harped on how important it is to feel good for wins because of how hard it is to get them. Ultimately, nobody around the program will feel satisfied until the Nittany Lions are beating Ohio State and Michigan, next week’s opponent.
Franklin concluded his impassioned rant by saying, “I’d like to be happy for 15 minutes and then get onto the next opponent.”
