Is Chop Robinson playing today vs. Maryland? Latest injury updates
By Josh Yourish
Two weeks ago in Penn State’s loss to Ohio State, the Nittany Lions suffered another loss, their star defensive end. Chop Robinson went out with an apparent head injury. Now, Penn State is at 7-1 and down in College Park for a matchup with the 5-3 Maryland Terrapins.
This week, Robinson’s status is questionable, but James Franklin didn’t reveal much more to the media than he did last week when he told reporters that the injury did not appear to be season-ending.
Robinson’s presence on the defense was certainly missed against the Hoosiers. Penn State’s defense sacked Indiana quarterback Brendan Sorsby three times but also allowed him to throw for 269 yards and three touchdowns on 16/19 passing.
The Nittany Lions narrowly escaped with a 33-24 win that was certainly in doubt at times because of big plays given up by the defense. Robinson has nine tackles and three sacks on the season and is widely projected as a first-round NFL draft pick.
Penn State’s defense is No. 2 in the country, allowing just 234.5 yards per game and just 4.0 yards per play. However, without Robinson, they gave up 349 yards to Indiana and actually only gained 342.
In place of Robinson, Penn State has gotten strong production from Adissa Isaac, who leads the team with 5.5 sacks, and Dani-Dennis Sutton, who forced a fumble that resulted in a safety.
Chop Robinson injury status:
Chop Robinson’s status is uncertain ahead of Penn State’s matchup against Maryland. He is questionable to play after missing last week’s game at home against Indiana.
Update: Robinson is listed as OUT vs. Maryland. He made the trip to College Park and was warming up on the field.
