Is Chop Robinson playing vs. Indiana? Latest injury updates
By Josh Yourish
Last week against Ohio State, Chop Robinson suffered an injury in the first half and was out the rest of the game. The Nittany Lions lost 20-12 in his absence, and now the star pass-rusher’s status is up in the air for Penn State’s Week 9 matchup against Indiana at Beaver Stadium.
Robinson’s injury occurred on a blow to the head by an Ohio State offensive lineman, and it appears that James Franklin is treating the situation with an extra level of care. Robinson stayed down on the ground for several minutes before being helped off the field.
During the week, Franklin said, “With Chop, we hope we can get him back sooner rather than later, but I don’t have any of that information right now.”
During the game, Jenny Taft reported that Robinson was very emotional in the locker room, but it appears that had more to do with missing a chance to beat Ohio State than missing the rest of the season. Franklin does not believe it is season-ending.
Robinson has led Penn State’s defense which is No. 1 in the country in total defense and No. 2 in scoring defense, allowing just 9.7 points per game. He has nine tackles and three sacks this year. Robinson is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Nittany Lions are 31.5-point favorites against 2-5 Indiana. That line hasn’t moved despite the uncertainty surrounding Penn State’s defensive leader.
Opposite Robinson, the Nittany Lions have Adissa Isaac who leads the team with 5.5 sacks. They are deep on the edge with Amin Vanover and Dani Dennis-Sutton each with 1.5 sacks and Zuriah Fisher with 2.5 on the season.
Chop Robinson injury status:
Robinson’s status is UNKNOWN ahead of Penn State’s matchup with the 2-5 Indiana Hoosiers.
