Big Ten QB rankings No. 2: Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland
- 1,926 passing yards
- 16 TDs 5 interceptions
- 63.9% completion
- 7.7 yards per attempt
Like his big brother, Taulia loves to throw the ball downfield. He’s done a great job of it this season too. 18.7% of his passes have traveled 20 or more yards downfield and he has an average depth of target of 9.4.
On those deep passes, Tagovailoa is averaging 11.2 yards per attempt with seven touchdowns and just one interception. He’s also completed 16 of 47 deep shots and those numbers would look better without the four drops by his wide receivers.
One of the best signs of a good veteran quarterback is their ability to beat the blitz. When he’s been blitzed, Tagovailoa is completing 60% of his passes for 7.6 yards per attempt with an average time to throw of 2.67 seconds and 11 touchdowns with no interceptions. He’s decisive and lethal.
Tagovailoa does have five interceptions when not blitzed, but I want a quarterback who is willing to take on some level of risk and that’s Tagovailoa, who is second in the Big Ten in passing yardage.
