5 dream coaching candidates to replace James Franklin if he’s fired
By Josh Yourish
Kalen DeBoer, Washington HC
What’s the biggest complaint with Drew Allar and the Penn State offense right now? They aren’t pushing the ball down the field. Well, that wouldn’t be an issue with Kalen DeBoer.
His quarterback, Michael Penix Jr. is averaging 10.0 yards per attempt with an average depth of target of 10.8 yards. Meanwhile, Allar is at 6.5 yards per attempt with an ADOT of 7.1 yards per attempt which ranks 140th of quarterbacks with 100 dropbacks, Penix ranks 29th.
DeBoer is two years younger than James Franklin at 48 and in his second season at Washington already has the Huskies as a national title contender at 7-0. The biggest problem would be prying him away from Washington.
With the Huskies joining the Big 10, a move to Penn State would be a lateral move. Still, if DeBoer struggles with the transition to the Big 10, then Happy Valley could start to look appealing.
