Trace McSorley was in State College for Whiteout weekend to sign autographs and be an honorary captain for the game against Iowa.

But today, The Family Clothesline posted on their Instagram that Trace had to cancel the autograph signing due to getting a call from an NFL team.

Now the question we all have is who could the mystery NFL team be?

The Options for former Penn State QB Trace McSorley

I have three options that come to mind; the Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers.

The first option for me is the Jets.

The Jets lost Aaron Rodgers for the season in week one after four snaps and have Zach Wilson leading them to a 0-2 start.

The Jets backup quarterback is Tim Boyle, so could the Jets be interested in bringing in Trace as a practice squad guy or could he take the backup spot in New York?

The next two options share something, the color blue, which Trace has worn at Penn State, although it’s a brighter shade in both Carolina and Indianapolis.

The Colts could be a short-term stay for Trace.

The Colts drafted Anthony Richardson who has been banged up in his first two games of the season and now is missing week three.

Gardner Minshew will lead the Colts into week three with Sam Ehlinger as the backup quarterback.

Trace could come in as a practice squad quarterback and this option is a short-term idea as Richardson is likely to play in week four.

The last option is the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers also took a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft this year with Bryce Young.

The Panthers are now 0-2 after losing to division opponents and Young is out for week three.

Andy Dalton will start for week three with no backup currently.

Similar to the Colts, Trace would join short-term, but if he impressed the Carolina staff this could lead to a permanent stay on the practice squad or even replace Dalton (unlikely.)

No matter who Trace signs with he will have the PSU faithful behind him ready to watch him throw it on a dime.
