Penn State football: Week 3 odds for Nittany Lions national title, Drew Allar Heisman
Week 3 of the 2023 college football season is upon us as Penn State football is set to take on Illinois, but have the last two weeks changed the National Title odds and Drew Allar’s Heisman chances?
Beginning with the latter, Drew Allar’s Heisman odds have somewhat improved since the preseason.
Bet MGM had Allar at +2500 odds to win the Heisman Trophy prior to the season starting. They have now moved him to +2000 which is between Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders at +1800 and Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman at +2500.
This is slightly better than three weeks ago, but we are only two weeks into the season and names like Michael Penix Jr. and Shedeur Sanders have launched themselves into the conversation.
FanDuel Sportsbook had Allar at a +2500 as well prior to the season. Currently, they have Allar at the same +2500, and similar to Bet MGM, FanDuel has him between Sanders and Hartman. The only difference is that Hartman is at +2200 and Sanders is at +3000.
DraftKings has Allar at +2000 which also lands him tied with Bo Nix at +2000 and in front of Marvin Harrison Jr. at +2800.
PointsBet has Allar at +2000 which is tied with Sam Hartman at +2000 and in front of Marvin Harrison Jr. at +2500.
Most of the sportsbooks seem to agree that Allar is elite and has a shot to win the Heisman if he keeps playing like he has the first two games, but they also seem nearly unanimous that USC’s Caleb Williams is going to repeat and win the Heisman in back-to-back seasons.
Although the first two games for Penn State haven’t been against spectacular opponents, Drew Allar has so far in the 2023 season thrown for 529 Yards, 4 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and completed 43 of his 55 passes (78.2%.)
Allar and Penn State are about to face off against a Fighting Illini team that has given up 230 passing yards to Toledo and 277 passing yards to Kansas. If Allar continues at the pace he is currently, then I expect those odds to win the Heisman to grow.
National Title odds for Penn State football in Week 3
Penn State was already a hot pick as a “sleeper” team in 2023, but with everyone picking them as a sleeper it doesn’t feel like they should be slept on. Since everyone is so high on Penn State and with Ohio State struggling to crush lesser opponents, have their odds moved up?
Bet MGM has Penn State had a +1800 to win the National Championship, which puts them between Notre Dame (+2200) and USC (+1600.)
Caesars Sportsbook has Penn State at +1600 which also has them between Notre Dame at +2000 and USC at +1400.
FanDuel also has Penn State between Notre Dame (+2200) and USC (+1600) at +1700.
DraftKings continues the trend with Penn State at a +1800 which is between USC at +1400 and Notre Dame at +2200.
PointsBet finishes off the list without letting down everyone as they have Penn State at +1800 between USC at +1400 and Notre Dame at +2500.
The sportsbooks agree here, all have Penn State between USC and Notre Dame and they also have Penn State as the third-best team in the Big Ten as Ohio State and Michigan are in front of them.
The only way for the odds to shift significantly is if a team in front of Penn State loses or if Penn State can beat Ohio State, Michigan, or both.
Penn State’s next opponent, the Illinois Fighting Illini, has given up 416 yards to Toledo and 539 yards to Kansas. Offensively, Illinois has put up 374 yards against Toledo with one turnover and 341 yards with two turnovers against Kansas.
This is a great matchup for Penn State as Illinois likes to give up plenty of yards and has given up a total of 62 points while Penn State has put up a total of 101 points (not to mention Penn State put up 63 points alone against Delaware.)

So if you are a sports better and believe Penn State will win the National Title or that Drew Allar will win the Heisman now is your time to bet to get the most money (if those things happen.)
