Penn State Football: Lions 2024 Class lands 4-star edge rusher

Penn State football’s 2024 recruiting class landed a major 4-star recruit in Mylachi Williams from Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania over the weekend. According to 247Sports, Penn State is currently ranked 7th in the nation, with a recruiting class of 22 commitments and 14 four-star prospects incoming.
Georgia has the number one class at the moment and Ohio State has the most 5-star recruits at 4 and sits at 2. Florida, Michigan, USC, and Notre Dame round out the top 6. Penn State is, however, ahead of the likes of Oregon, Texas A&M, Clemson, and Alabama, for the moment.
Williams plays for Monsignor Bonner and is ranked by 247Sports as being the 7th-best prospect from PA and the 25th-best edge rusher in the country. He finished his junior season with 68 tackles, 28 of which went for a loss of yardage, 12 sacks, and one interception on a team that finished 11-3 in the very tough Philadelphia Catholic League.
247Sports national analyst Gabe Brooks described Williams as “possessing plenty of long-term potential as a speed-oriented pass rusher who could also possibly wind up playing off the ball as a more traditional linebacker”.
They say the early bird catches the worm and this definitely applies to Penn State football’s recruiting process of Williams. They offered him a scholarship in the middle of January and then followed that up with continued interest. When the other Power 5 schools’ offers started coming in, such as Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia, and USC, it was the initial interest that Penn State showed that sealed the deal for Williams.
Both defensive coordinator Manny Diaz and newly-appointed defensive line coach Deion Barnes built strong relationships with Williams.
But it was the master recruiter himself, head coach James Franklin, that convinced Williams that Penn State football was the place for him. Williams has this to say about Coach Frankin “I love Coach Franklin. He was amazing to me and he’s going to tell you how it is. Straight up and he doesn’t sugarcoat anything.”
