Multiple 2024 Penn State Football Commits Receive Rankings Boost on 247Sports
On Thursday, 247sports updated their recruiting rankings for the 2024 recruiting class, and two Penn State commits have shot up the leaderboards. During the summer months recruiting experts have time to review tape and camp reviews from all prospects and this always them to re-evaluate the rankings. Both Penn State commits attended the Elite 11 Finals and proved that they can compete with the best of the best.
Starting with tight end Luke Reynolds, who committed to Penn State back on March 25th, 2023. When he committed he was a significantly under-the-radar prospect as he was ranked as the 911th player in the 2024 class with a 3-star ranking. But, as of today, Reynolds has shot up to the 49th-best player in the 2024 recruiting class as a 4-star recruit.
This is a great example of a player that always had talent but wasn’t recognized on the national level. As a fan it’s hard to understand the thought process when you see Penn State land a few 3-star recruit; however, as most cycles go, the recruits’ ranking can skyrocket based on their progress. Luke has shown a lot of promise and he stood out as a receiving tight end at the Elite 11 Finals which caused his ranking to increase.
The other recruit that had a significant ranking increase on 247sports was quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer. He is a player that committed to Penn State back on May 20th of 2023 and he was listed as a 3-star prospect at the time. He was listed as the 419th overall player in the 2024 class at the time of his commitment.
After his time at the Elite 11 Finals, Grunkemeyer showed off his strong arm and turned some heads. Today, he is listed as a 4-star prospect and the 200th-best player in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247sports.
Both players have so much potential and as always we know that stars don’t mean that these players will immediately translate to superstars in college; however, it’s encouraging to see their growth and how the coaching staff is able to find these under-the-radar prospects.
