Penn State’s Kaytron Allen is the Most Underrated Running Back in the Country
It’s hard to call someone underrated when they just finished such a promising freshman season. But for Penn State running back Kaytron Allen, it’s simply the truth. Most of the national media speak about Penn State’s success during the 2022 season running the ball; however, they typically call out Nick Singleton and forget to mention an equally important piece, Kaytron Allen.
In today’s era, most players would want to be the guy, the main player that everyone is speaking about as the leader of a position room and that’s why I believe Kaytron Allen is even more special. To not be jealous of your teammate’s fame and to stay humble speaks to his maturity. Allen just goes to work and doesn’t do it for the personal glory which I admire.
Another reason why the running back room in general is special is the friendship and bond that Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen have with each other. Every time the camera would pan over to these two players they were always sharing a laugh. If Singelton scored then Allen would be the first person to greet him on the sideline and vice-versa. When you are even happier for your teammate’s success than your own, that’s when special chemistry exists on a team.
The Penn State fan base does a great job of giving Allen his credit on social media. If there is ever a post about the best running backs in the Big Ten or in the country you don’t need to scroll long before a Penn State fan comments “Don’t sleep on Kaytron Allen”. But he deserves to be in the conversation more from a national media standpoint.
Penn State doesn’t win 11 games last season without Nick Singleton AND Kaytron Allen. If the Nittany Lions want to achieve their goals this season they will need both players to have success in the run game and the pass game.
