A name that has been swirling around the Penn State community over the past several weeks is Peter Gonzalez. He plays wide receiver at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. According to 247sports, Gonzalez is a 3-star prospect with a .8617 247sports Composite Ranking. Now, he has made his commitment to play football at Penn State. He chose Penn State over Virginia Tech and Miami.

At 6’2 200lbs Gonzalez recently stole the show at one of Penn State’s prospect camps where he showed off his skillset working with current Penn State 2024 QB commit Ethan Grunkemeyer. The big question mark for Gonzalez was that he suffered an apparent knee injury last fall and missed 3 games (per 247sports) so the staff needed to see that he was fully healed and he has shown that and more.

On tape when you watch him play the first highlight from his 2022 season is a beautiful one-handed catch down the seam and you can easily see why wide receivers coach Marques Hagans has pursued Gonzalez as much as he has. He has big strong hands and at 6’2 he is very elusive making defenders miss at ease.

Another massive part of his game is his ability to high-point the football. What I mean by this is, Gonzalez can jump up and secure his catch when the ball is at its highest point. Because of this, it allows him to out-jump his defender and come down with many contested catches.

Wide receiver is a massive area of need for the 2024 class so adding Gonzalez is a load off of the coaching staff’s shoulders. This one always felt like a when not an if he would commit. After his official visit this past weekend, the Penn State staff was able to show him why he belongs at PSU. Another piece of the 2024 puzzle has been secured.
