Penn State Football Kickoff Time for West Virginia Game Announced

There has been some speculation on when the first game of the season would take place. This was caused when Penn State football linebacker Abdul Carter posted the countdown to kickoff from within the locker room on his Instagram story a few weeks ago.

On Saturday, the Penn State football team and NBC Sports confirmed that the West Virginia game will take place on Saturday, September 2nd at 7:30 PM.

I can’t think of any better way to kick off the 2023 season, in Beaver Stadium under the lights. All of the off-season chatter and speculation on how good this team can and should be this year will be brought to reality on the national stage. This will bring more juice to the team as they run out onto the field under the bright lights.

Now, the next part of this announcement that will come within the next month or so will be the game theme. Everyone still wants to know which 2023 opponent will get the whiteout game. Which is the greatest environment in all of college sports, in my opinion. A lot of speculation is leaning towards Iowa being the whiteout when they come to Happy Valley during week 4 of the college football season. However, could you imagine the whiteout being week 1 against West Virginia?

Many fans appear to be against this as it could be seen as a “wasted whiteout.” To me, regardless of who receives the whiteout game, it will be an amazing experience either way. Penn State is currently favored by 16.5 points over the Mountaineers according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

The game themes were announced at the beginning of June for the 2022 season, so I would imagine it would be around the same time for the 2023 season. One thing is certain, it will be very strange watching Big Ten football on NBC this season.
