As a Penn State football fan, the reality is that the 2023 team is loaded with proven talent in most positions. The two areas where the team needs to establish depth are the interior defensive line and wide receiver.

Outside of KeAndre Lambert-Smith, there aren’t many receivers left on the roster that have a ton of production in their careers so far. That’s where Kent State transfer wide receiver Dante Cephas is the Nittany Lions’ saving grace.

After the Blue-White game coach Franklin said to the media “We think there is talent in that room to go where we want to go. I think we have to be tougher and we have to be more consistent.”

That consistency will come with more reps with QB Drew Allar, and that toughness will be established as the season goes on. However, you can’t help but imagine how much consistency and toughness Cephas will bring to this team.

He committed to the Penn State football team back on January 15th as one of the hottest wide receivers in the transfer portal. Cephas was ranked as the 8th best available player in the NCAA transfer portal according to On3.

It’s still unclear what date Cephas will arrive on campus. I would assume once his classes wrap up at Kent State this month, he will begin the process of preparing to come to Happy Valley. The sooner Cephas can arrive the faster he can begin developing chemistry with Drew Allar.

The two will need hours of throwing sessions between when he arrives on campus and the season opener, but again this is a veteran player who knows what it takes to be prepared for the season.

During Cehpas’s final season with Kent State, he racked up 48 receptions for 744 yards and 3 touchdowns. He averaged 15.5 yards per reception and will bring that explosive element to the Penn State offense this fall.
