Penn State Wrestling: Three Nittany Lions Win US Open Crowns
By Mike Scott
Next up we have 74KG with #1 Jason Nolf versus #3 Vincenzo Joseph. One Penn State Wrestling NCAA Champion against another. Nolf was the favorite coming into this one, but it is always tricky when you have two former teammates against each other as they know each other so well.
The first period of the bout was pretty passive, with both wrestlers being hit with verbal warnings. Joseph would pull off a 4-point-move in the period to head into the break with a 4-0 lead.
However, the second period was a different story. Much like Nick Lee in the previous weight class, Jason Nolf came alive in the second period. Within a ten-second window, Nolf pulled off back-to-back 4-point moves to catapult into the lead. Nolf would hold onto the lead and escape with a hard-fought 10-5 victory over his fellow Nittany Lion.
Jason Nolf wins the 2023 US Open at the 74KG weight class and will head to Final X! Nolf will face another member of the Penn State Wrestling room, NLWC member Kyle Dake.
Vincenzo Joseph finishes in second place after a really strong showing. He was Nolf’s toughest opponent throughout the US Open.
