First up we have 65KG where we were represented by both Nick Lee and Beau Bartlett. Lee came into the tournament as one of the favorites whereas Beau was seen as an underdog.

Nick Lee was slotted in as the #3 seed in the weight class. He began the tournament run with a quick 10-0 victory in both the round of 32 and the round of 16. He then took on the #6 seed Matthew Kolodzik in the quarterfinals. Lee won the contest 12-1 and was onto the semis.

Beau was slotted in as the #10 seed and began with a quick 10-0 victory in the round of 32. He then had a come-from-behind victory in the round of 16 against #7 seed Ian Parker. Beau would then face #2 seed Evan Henderson in the quarters. Beau won the match with a score of 11-6 after a dominant second period where he outscored Henderson 9-0. Beau was onto the semis.

This led to a Penn State Wrestling versus Penn State Wrestling showdown. #3 Seed Nick Lee versus #10 Beau Bartlett in the semifinals. This was a great wrestling match with constant back-and-forth scoring. There’s also some controversy. Beau had the lead in the closing minute and went on the defensive. Beau was hit with a caution for being so passive, and the match ended up tied 10-10. There are no ties in freestyle, so we go to criteria. The referee raised Beau’s hand we thought we just saw a big upset. However, about 30 minutes or so later, US Wrestling announced that Nick Lee was the winner based on the criteria, and since Beau had a caution against him, he lost.
