A little over a week after Penn State football’s 2023 Blue-White game, numbers are starting to come out for the latest spring game attendance. Penn State ranks second with 68,000 fans in attendance according to On3.

This is a truly incredible statistic since I was physically there that day. I figured the attendance numbers would’ve been drastically lower than the other Power 5 programs due to the poor weather conditions, but that wasn’t the case at all.

It goes to show just how important Penn State football is to the community and just how many fans are willing to deal with the conditions to watch the Nittany Lions play.

I will say when the Blue-White game started, it was still wet and rainy. The majority of Beaver Stadium was pretty empty. But, as the game went on the fans began to pile in and the weather cleared up as well.

The important element to note with these Spring Games is recruiting. This is an opportunity to host a large number of uncommitted players while showing them your game-day atmosphere. The Penn State football team was able to have success with this as they landed 2024 ATH Caleb Brewer just hours after the Blue-White game. They also received a commitment from 2024 OT Donovon Harbour a few days after the Blue-White game as well.

The Penn State community is deep and proud to represent the blue and white on Saturdays. To me, the Blue-White game is important because there is no unhappy ending. Instead, it’s a Saturday filled with Penn State football, friends, and loved ones to cheer on the Nittany Lions.

No matter what weather conditions are brought to State College, PA in mid-April, the Penn State faithful will find a way to show up and show out for Nittany Nation. Another successful Spring Game is in the books.
