There are many talented players in the 2023 class for Penn State football. Many of them will take the field for the first time on Saturday in the Blue-White game. Recently 247sports published an article College football rankings: One early-impact freshman for every top-25 team entering 2023 season.

In this article, they picked offensive lineman J’ven Williams as the early impact freshman for Penn State football this season. This is a great choice, Williams is a 5-star recruit from Wyomissing, PA. He is currently listed at 6’5 313 lbs according to the Penn State Athletics official roster.

The offensive line for the Penn State football team is going to be one of their key strengths in 2023. My projected starting lineup is LT – Olu Fashanu, LG – Landon Tengwall, C – Hunter Nourzad, RG – Sal Wormley, RT – Drew Shelton.

So, you might be thinking where does J’ven Williams fit into that rotation if the starters are already solidified? Well, it’s his athleticism that is going to make it extremely difficult to keep him off the field. In high school, his offense ran a wing-t style of play calling. He played offensive tackle but he was forced to pull and get out front to lead-block.

This highlight will speak for itself to show his true power and speed.

Ideally, you’d want to see Williams at guard after watching this clip; however, I think we could use him as a reserved tackle. For him to make an impact on the 2023 season, some shuffling would need to take place on the offensive line, but with how fast things can change with one injury.

During the 2023 season, I think he will find a way to not only see the field but by the end of the season, this is a guy that could be a starter on the offensive line. We could see Williams play guard this year and then move out to tackle as his career progresses.

One of the more important factors for NFL scouts nowadays is showing that you can be versatile. If Williams could play both guard and tackle during his Penn State career the sky is the limit for this young man.
