The 6’6 forward from Cincinnati, OH Evan Mahaffey entered the NCAA transfer portal on 3/27.

He also just finished his freshman season with the Penn State basketball team. Mahaffey was a former 3-star prospect, and he was a point guard in high school. This allowed him to bring a unique skill set to Penn State.

Post-players are asked to do more guard activities in today’s game, so having a player like Mahaffey bring the ball up the court and blow by the defender for an easy layup was part of his advantage this season.

Mahaffey ended his freshman season appearing in 34 games. He averaged 2.8 points per game, 1.7 rebounds per game, and had 9 steals on the season (per Penn State athletics).

He is a player that I would love to return to PSU from the transfer portal if possible. Whenever he was on the court he always made an impact. Regardless of his decision, I’ll always be thankful for his massive offensive rebound that led to a Cam Wynter game-winner at Northwestern this season.
