Penn State Football: Potential Candidates for Wide Receiver No. 1
2. Dante Cephas
Dante Cephas is a Redshirt-Senior transfer WR from Kent State. He also has a really good shot at becoming WR1 at Penn State.
Cephas committed to the Penn State Football team back on January 15th, but he won’t be with the team until the summer. That will put him behind the eight ball; however, this is a guy who has proven to be very successful at the FBS level. Many people might say “well he’s from Kent State so of course he was successful.” He opened up last season at Washington where he had 6 catches for 105 yards, against Oklahoma he had 4 catches for 50 yards, and against Georgia he had 3 catches for 25 yards. So, it’s not just due to lesser competition, this guy can play against the best of the best.
In the past two seasons Cephas has 130 catches for 1,984 yards and 9 touchdowns. He chose Penn State over Georgia, Notre Dame, UCLA, and Oklahoma, some tough competition.
He should have a great opportunity to become WR #1 this fall with his proven success and size / speed. The fall camp battles that will go on between these players will be very interesting to follow as we get closer to the 2023 season.
