Penn State Football: Drew Allar continues to garner national hype
Penn State Football will head into the 2023 season with a new quarterback for the first time since 2019.
Sophomore Drew Allar is set to take over under center for Penn State Football this upcoming season, and the expectations are mounting.
The former 5-star recruit already had plenty of hype surrounding him just because of his recruiting ranking, but then fans saw glimpses of what he could do on the field this past season.
Even though it’s now the offseason, the hype around Drew Allar has not diminished, it’s actually increased.
Last Thursday, 247 Sports released a list of “Players set to emerge as college football’s next superstars in 2023” and Allar made the list.
Chris Hummer, who made the list, had this to say about Allar:
"Allar is the type of high-upside passer who can push PSU in the discussion with Ohio State and Michigan in the Big Ten East."
Another 247 Sports media personality, Josh Pate, had this to say about Allar on a recent episode of his show Late Kick with Josh Pate:
"There are several more scenarios where he ends up shining in his first year as a start than he just disappoints and doesn’t live up to expectations. I don’t think the bust potential is very him with him."
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see members of the 247 Sports team hype up Allar, after all, they were the recruiting service who had Allar rated as the No. 1 quarterback in the nation in the 2022 recruiting class.
Between Allar and all the returning production the Nittany Lions have coming back in 2023, expectations, fair or not, are at an all-time high for Penn State Football.
Luckily, even if Allar struggles early, Penn State has the offensive line, running backs and defense to make up for any shortcomings the young quarterback may have early in starting days.
